Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Air Force pilots wear flight suits?

Pilots and flight crew wear these suits for protection and temperature control. These suits are specifically designed to block cold wind, shield from moisture, and keep the wearer warm. In addition, they have pockets to hold necessary gear and feature a comfortable design to offer more mobility. Coveralls made to military specifications are also made out of flame-resistant, non-melting Nomex fabric for the ultimate protection when it matters most.

Are flight suits only made for pilots and aircrew members?

Though their primary purpose is to offer protection, mobility, and functionality for these professionals, that doesn't mean that civilians can’t benefit from them, too. Tactical coveralls would be a great option for yard or housework, car maintenance, or even paintballing. Military-grade suits will offer the protective features and adjustability needed for manual labor. You could also use coveralls as part of a Top Gun costume!

What types of materials are flight suits constructed from?

Military surplus and military-grade suits are constructed using Nomex fabric, a flame-resistant, high-temperature-resistant fiber designed not to melt or support combustion. This material is widely used for a variety of professions, like Air Force flight crews and other military personnel, fire and emergency responders, and law enforcement, for its protective features. Other coveralls are made using materials like poly-cotton twill blends for quality and durability you can trust to last.
