The Valorous Unit Citation is awarded by the United States Army to units of the United States Armed Forces for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United States while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent part for actions occurring on or after August 3, 1963. . It is the 2nd highest unit award of the U.S. Army and is considered the unit equivalent of a Silver Star Medal. This is a "ribbon only" award.
