Authorized in 2003, the expeditionary medal serves as recognition for those deployed abroad on and after September 11, 2001. For award eligibility, military personnel must have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days within an authorized anti-terrorism campaign. Service time exceptions apply for those who served in active combat, those wounded in combat, and soldiers that died in the line of duty.
