FAQ

What is paracord rope used for?

Paracord and its separated inner strands have many uses, including:

  • Sewing thread for gear
  • Creating fishing lines
  • Securing food from wildlife
  • Crafting survival bracelets
  • Tying down gear
  • Building shelters
  • Making custom keychains

What is 550 paracord?

550 paracord, or Type III paracord, is a durable, lightweight utility rope made of nylon. Its core is filled with 7 inner strands that can be removed and used individually. Those strands are fed into a braider, where 32 interwoven strands are braided around the core. The final result is roughly 4mm in diameter, with a 550 lb. tensile strength.

Can military paracord support my body weight?

550 paracord can support your weight, but ONLY in stationary conditions. It’s never an advisable substitute for climbing ropes, harnesses, or safety lines.

Can paracord rope shrink when it gets wet?

Yes, particularly the first time they get wet. Many pre-shrink their parachute cord supplies by boiling them/soaking them in hot water and letting them dry before they use them.
