The Joint Meritorious Unit Award is an award presented to units of the United States Armed Forces presented for exceptional meritorious service within a joint operation. Created in June of 1981, the award was made retroactive to January 23rd, 1979. It is considered the organizational equivalent to the Defense Superior Service Medal.
