The Coast Guard Overseas Service Ribbon is awarded to Coast Guard personnel who complete at least a year long tour at an overseas shore-based duty station or aboard a cutter that is assigned to an overseas area. Reservists qualify for the award after completing at least 36 cumulative days of service overseas during a 12 month tour of duty. Approved on October 28th, 2009, the award may be retroactively awarded, but only for the initial award. Additional awards are represented by wearing a Bronze Star device on the service ribbon.
